Drawing inspiration from the rising popularity and initial success of STEPN, we’re excited to work on a similar app — but this time, it’s for our pet dogs.
In general, dogs need 30 minutes to 2 hours of physical exercise per day. Most pet owners, particularly dog lovers, already know this. But, they still find it challenging to go out for dog walking.
According to several studies, around 30–60% of dog owners do not walk their dogs regularly. The average across these studies is about 41%. That’s still a huge number, so we were curious to know if dog owners just didn’t have the time, or if some of them didn’t really think dog walking was that essential.
As it turns out, data shows that people who walk their dogs actually put in a lot of time and effort. For the busiest fur moms and fur dads, this must have been their biggest hurdle. Some dog-walking pet owners would, at times, even cancel their walk for the day.
For example, some pet owners were under too much work pressure, and they simply wanted to rest after a long day. Meanwhile, others had more family responsibilities to attend to, and kids would be one of those.
Of course, there are also completely “out-of-our-control reasons,” such as bad weather. For us, that’s excusable.
Now, how about those times when the sky is blue?
Interestingly, 32% of dog owners admit they canceled a walk just because they didn’t have any desire to move outside with their pets. They simply felt lazy.
That brings us to the question of motivation.
While all the other reasons are indeed out of our hands, the “laziness” factor is definitely something we thought we could work on.
After all, that’s also a huge obstacle for many people when it comes to their personal fitness.
Often, humans wouldn’t make the effort of going out and exercising — even just for themselves — if they think the reward is lesser than the energy they’d spend to gain it.
If it requires deep breathing and buckets of sweat to lose a pound, they’d rather keep the extra fat.
This line of reasoning has therefore become the main driver for the fitness industry in their marketing campaigns. Hundreds of fitness coaches launch thousands of courses and tips that promise “the easiest,” “the quickest,” and “the no sweat” way of losing weight.
The fitness industry clearly wants to address the laziest among us.
Most dogs, however, actually like being walked. They prefer to be fit. They would love to move around more than most humans. Dogs would want to see the outdoors and perhaps meet with other doggos.
For some people, that’s just extra work. And while dog walking may also boost the physical activity levels of the dog owners, in this day and age, they may not care so much. Some of them would rather sit in their chairs and find entertainment online.
But what if dog walking gives more reward than the effort they put in?
What if dog owners also gain rewards as they walk their dogs?
Following our analogy on the human motivation for fitness, we thought we might need to find ways to incentivize dog walking.
During our research, we came across STEPN — it’s a web3 lifestyle app that promotes physical outdoor activity with its move-and-own incentive.
If you’ve been on the internet for a while now, you may have already heard of the tons of exciting developments on the world-wide-web. You may have learned about the evolution of Web 3.0 and the rise of blockchain-based apps.
You must’ve also caught interest in the play-to-own (P2E) arena and the concept of GameFi. In this age, you can play blockchain games, win, and then gain tokens that you could use in the real world. You can even exchange many of these tokens for real money.
You see, STEPN is one of the brilliant apps that came out of those foundations. But, they’re not encouraging you to sit in front of your mobile phone and be all out in your game overnight. This time, they’re incentivizing you to go out, walk, jog, or run.
In short, they’re like giving you a coin to get moving and get fit.
Now here’s the exciting part.
We’re also creating something similar. Basically, Walk-to-own is our STEPN for pets.
And we’re integrating this Walk-to-own feature inside our LOOTaDOG (LAD) app.
The main difference is, of course, that instead of putting the focus on your own fitness, we’re looking out for the welfare of your pet dog. You gain rewards only as a side benefit.
That is to say that if you prioritize walking with your dog, you might not even notice you’re already exercising daily.
If you focus on spending time with your dog as they move around, our Walk-to-own mechanism automatically increases your points in the app.
All you need to do is walk your dog daily!
Yes, daily, because first and foremost, it’s the most beneficial for your dog. Secondly, you would now crave to go out because of the app rewards.
This is the beauty of the web3 revolution. It now encourages not only GameFi but also FitnessFi.
STEPN did it for humans. LOOTaDOG will now be doing it for dogs.
Watch out for us!
